82 Republic

SINGAPORE & HONG KONG 82 young Chinese artists born in the 80's and establishing a community for the exchange of art, culture and ideas across geographical boundaries.

The group is called 82 Republic and it represents the best aspiring artists, handpicked from art schools in China and all over the world. It offers a channel and space for them to showcase their talents and their artistic creations as well as engage in stimulating dialogues with like-minded colleagues. The group has represented a total of 82 artists over a period of 10 years.

82 Republic has an ongoing exhibition in both the Hong Kong and Singapore branches of Connoisseur Art Gallery. The artists selection for the Singapore exhibition consist of 5 painters and 1 sculptor, all graduates of the Sichuan Fine Arts Institute in China.

These artists focus their work on the social issues faced by China's 'Generation Y' as opposed to their predecessors born in the 60's and 70's who focus more on social realism and engage in political pop themes. 82 Republic artists generally belong to China's so-called "Me Generation" and are influenced by individualism, consumerism, modernization and technology.

The new spirit and mood they create in their art dominate the genre of contemporary Chinese art that promises to intrigue and wow audiences.
