SINGAPORE One of Indonesia's most influential and most famous artists, S. Sudjojono (1914-1986) is given honor in a show that brings together his work with some of the most successful contemporary artists of Indonesia.
The exhibition is entitled "Strategies Towards the Real: S. SUDJOJONO and Contemporary Indonesian Art." Curated by Singaporean curator and researcher on Southeast Asian art, Wang Zineng, this exhibition is the first outside of Indonesia for Sudjojono's works.
The theme of artistic representation of the 'real' aims to stir the idea of the 'real' by continually questioning the artist's function in society and what they see as 'real'.
The exhibition will run from 10 May to August 24, 2008 at the National University of Singapore (NUS) Museum.
