Women's Golf Fashion Trends

Elite female golfers take golfing fashion on a whole new drive.
Professional, accomplished, and at the top of their game, Paula Creamer, Natalie Gulbis, Michelle Wie, Lorena Ochoa are four young women internationally recognized as the best female golfers of their time. Adding to their slew of accomplishments, these young Ladies' Professional Golf Association (LPGA) athletes are also rewriting the face of the golfing fashion with panache, capturing the imagination and hearts of aspiring female golfers across the world.

Until the recent decade, golfing fashion for the female golfer has consisted largely of polo shirts and pants that were petite cousins of male golfing attire. Enter the young athletes of today, fronting the game with expert dexterity and aplomb.

Ochoa, currently the number one ranked female golfer in the world, is only 26 with a glowing string of sporting and humanitarian accomplishments, and has recently qualified for the World Golf Hall of Fame. Creamer, 22, has pink grips for her clubs, a pink golf bag and Pink Panther head covers for her driver, and she uses a pink golf ball during the last round of every tournament. And she has had six wins on the LPGA Tour and eight total professional wins, earning her fifth LPGA title in 2007. These young ladies are bringing energy and attention to the sport, redefining limits and unabashedly flaunting their femininity in style.

With the great self-confidence and self-assuredness that comes with achievement in their game, more and more young women are choosing to shed the solemn, conservative and unflattering look of golfing fashion in favour of contemporary and stylish apparel. And companies are taking notice. Reinterpreting reigning sporting and runway fashion for women, golfing fashion houses have given birth to a new look for the ladies' golfing mode, creating comfortable, athletic fabrics in fun, functional and flirty silhouettes.

Fitted shapes such as shorts, polo dresses and skirts make an entrance into the greens, paired with charming details such as exaggerated buttons, fitted collars and graphic prints and preppy plaid textures with a fresh modern feel. Without losing sight of the game, fashion houses incorporate sporting functionality with lightweight SPF fabrics, a pocket for tees, or a chic velcro belt loop for the lady golfer to strap her club to.

No longer just a reanimation of polos and capris, golf fashion has gone toward accessorizing the game with stylish attire that comes with complementing golf bags, totes, club covers and makeup pouches with mirrors attached.

No longer just the prerogative of fashion icons and sporting stars, golfing fashion is taking on broad uses for various purposes, and is set to take the chic lady golfer from the green, to places.
