Michael Kors, who has become a fashion household name as a judge on the television show “Project Runway”, painted his classic looks with retro-urbane elegance in his Spring/Summer 2014 collection showcased at New York Fashion Week, updating his pin-up model look with pleats and fur.
Images of a pin-up at the beach — the way Kors described his collection — no doubt inspired the floral bandeau tops and high-rise shorts that would be fit for Betty Grable. The collection included crepe dresses with metal studs small enough to retain and enhance a feminine look. Variations on linen trenches and leather clutches showed the sharp tailoring and soft fluidity that remain part of Kors’s signature style.
Backstage at his show, Kors said his collection provided a way to “be casual and laid back and have that sort of romantic easy attitude, but still have glamour and luxury”.
