MOTT32 located in Hong Kong has won the prize for ‘World Interior of the Year’ at the World Festival of Interiors held from 1 to 3 October at Marina Bay Sands in Singapore. Beating 60 projects to win the title, the restaurant was dramatically transformed from a basement storage facility for expensive Chinese heirlooms, to décor that features Chinese propaganda (irreverently, of course) with industrial materials serving as furniture and light fittings.
The look is combined with a modern industrial aesthetic featuring exposed brickwork, light fittings housed in metal mesh cages and former vaults turned into exclusive booths.
“It was a Hong Kong project, it explored Hong Kong culture both past and present, which makes the project such a special one and winning this award even better,” explained Joyce Wang.
