The Duchess of Cambridge visited Family Action's Hornsey Road Children's Centre in London today to take a tour of the facilities and participate in a discussion with experts and practitioners in maternal mental health.
This Centre provides a welcoming environment to new and expectant mothers, as well as a place for children to play. Parents are given mental health support, as well as postnatal and antenatal services. The Centre even has a nursery, playgrounds and family support services.
The Duchess had a tour of the Centre's facilities and heard from some of the families who have benefited from their services.
Experts say that perinatal mental health problems can occur during pregnancy or in the first year following the birth of a child, and can affect up to 20 per cent of women. Unless it is treated early, it can have long lasting impacts on the woman and her family. This charity is one of the biggest national providers of early intervention services for families and children.
Family Action provides practical, emotional and financial support to those who are experiencing poverty, disadvantage and social isolation. Set up in 1869, the charity now works with over 45,000 families through over 130 community-based services. The Queen became their Royal Patron in 1953 after the death of Queen Mary who was their previous Patron. I think that there is a good possibility that this will be passed down to Kate some day.
Family Action has extensive experience of grant giving. Since the Grenfell Tower fire in June that killed at least 80 and left many homeless, the charity has given grants to help them replace items destroyed in the fire, as well as providing them with emotional support.
Today's engagement was the one Kate was forced to cancel due to her sickness in early September when the pregnancy announcement came, so it is nice that she was still able visit this charity a couple of months later.
The Duchess was back in an outfit from her first pregnancy for her visit to Hornsey Road Children's Center today.
•While five months pregnant with Prince George back in 2013, Kate wore this coat by Goat to an engagement with Child Bereavement UK. It is the label's 'Redgrave Coat' in Nude which is still available on their website in all sizes for £600/$790 in ten different colours.
It is described, "This classically sophisticated coat is A lined shaped and has side seam diagonal welt pockets."
Zara Phillips, one of The Queen's grandchildren, has also worn this coat. Kate wore a plum dress by Goat just last week which you can see on my page in case you missed it. Goat seems to be one of her go-to brands for maternity wear, and has been worn by Kate in all three pregnancies.
•Just like last time, Kate paired the coat with her Topshop's 'Contrast Collar Dress' featuring a contrasting Peter Pan collar that she wears over the coat. Kate's dress sits much lower than the one pictured on the model. This dress is no longer available but last sold for £54/$71.
•Kate was carrying her trusty black suede Mulberry clutch once again , and wearing her much-loved Annoushka baroque pearl drop earrings. The earrings are £1,250/$1,640, or the pearl drops alone are £320/$420. Kate wears the pearls with gold Kiki McDonough hoops.
•As for Kate's boots, we have seen these plenty of times in the past. They are her Russell & Bromley 'Half N Half' stretch knee-high boots, which are still available on their website for £455/$600 in all sizes.
They are described, "These beautiful block heeled boots from our collaboration with Stuart Weitzman offer a knee-high alternative to the iconic 50-50. In luxurious black suede with a low block heel these boots are detailed with trademark stretch panel at the back for a clean fit and elongated silhouette. Simply pull on with anything from skirts to skinnies for day-long sophistication and style." (They warn to take a half size smaller than normal)
