Reach Academy Feltham
By Alexandrina Kentska | 11 January 2018

For her first official engagement of 2018, The Duchess of Cambridge is visiting Reach Academy Feltham to see their work with Place2Be supporting children and families in the school.

She was given a tour of the school, talked to families benefitting from the school's parenting support, visited the nursery area, and joined a discussion with Place2Be staff and secondary school students from the Academy about the range of support on offer at the school.

Reach (which stands for Reflect, Endeavour, Aspire, Show Courage and Have Fun) offers the very best education, and is unique in a number of ways: there are never more than sixty Pupils enrolled each year, ensuring strong personal relationships; each student works towards top grades and the chance to succeed at a top university; it is a small school, starting at Reception and going all the way up to Year 13.

Reach Academy Feltham is a publicly funded, independently-governed school which provides education free of charge to local children. They are a mixed, non-denominational school for children aged 4-18.

The Duchess, whose passion lies with children and their emotional wellbeing, has been Patron of Place2Be since 2013, and has visited a number of schools in the past that use the charity's services, in order to see the impact it has with the students.

Place2Be works with more than 282 primary and secondary schools across England, Scotland and Wales.

According to the charity's website, one in ten children aged between 5 and 16 years (three in every classroom) has a mental health problem. Many continue to have these problems into adulthood. Half of those with lifetime mental health problems first experience symptoms by the age of 14.

With schools where Place2Be is present, children and young people can book to see a counsellor on their lunch or break time and attend on their own or in a group.

Without support, children facing challenges such as bereavement, domestic violence, family breakdown or neglect can easily go off the rails. Place2Be’s counselling services — based in schools — help stop the downward spiral, resulting in happier children who are able to learn.

The Duchess kicked off this year's a new coat from old-favourite label Hobbs.

Kate wore the 'Gianna' French navy coat, originally selling for £420/$570 before selling out.

It is described: "Taking inspiration from the traditional riding coat, the Gianna is a modern classic. Made in beautiful French navy wool, it is beautifully tailored and has a dramatic femininity achieved by the flared skirt and black detailing. The curved collar and pewter buttons add an extra equestrian touch."

Some of you might recognise the dress Kate wore underneath her coat. It is the 'Florrie' floral-print maternity dress by maternity label Seraphine, and has been worn twice previously during her pregnancy with Charlotte in 2015 .

The dress is still available in all sizes for £65/$88, and is described: "Made in soft woven fabric, this elegant dress drapes beautifully to finish just above the knee, allowing plenty of movement and a flexible fit for before, during and after pregnancy. Featuring a feminine curved empire line to define your waist, the Seraphine Florrie dress is one of those indispensable trans-seasonal maternity dresses ideal for any occasion."

Kate's black 'Vanessa' turtleneck dress she wore in New York in 2014 also remains available online for £49/$66.

The Duchess paired the look with her navy suede block heeled £400/$540 Jimmy Choo 'Georgia' pumps, owned since 2014, which are no longer available.

For accessories, Kate carried her navy suede Stuart Weitzman 'Muse' clutch, wore her diamond and sapphire earrings and her Cartier 'Ballon Bleu' watch. Kate also carried some navy gloves the £70/$95 Cornelia James 'Beatrice' merino wool gloves.
