The two duchesses are at the Ladies’ Singles Final at Wimbledon yesterday to watch Serena Williams compete against Angelique Kerber for the chance to win a record-breaking 24th grand slam title.
Prior to watching the match, Kate and Meghan met a number of Wimbledon ladies champions, as well as some of the Championships’ ball boys and ball girls involved in the tournament.
They also saw the men's semi-final between Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal.
Kate has attended a Wimbledon match at least once every year since her marriage, apart from 2013 when she was in the late stages of pregnancy with George.
In a 2016 interview, The Duchess said that the annual tournament “...was very much part of my growing up. It’s hugely special.”
The Duchess is Patron of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, a patronage passed down to her by The Queen, and has been a keen tennis fan since she was young.
Meghan has also attended Wimbledon a few times in the past, but today marks her first time sitting in the royal box.
In 2016, Meghan attended a match three days after her blind date with Prince Harry.
Today, Meghan was cheering for her good friend Serena Williams who she met back in 2010 at a Super Bowl where they “hit it off immediately” according to Meghan’s former blog The Tig.
Yesterday Serena talked about Meghan: "Every year... she comes out to Wimbledon, has supported me. Now she's supporting me in a different role. But our friendship is still exactly the same. We always have supported each other, just been there for each other through a lot.”
Serena attended Harry and Meghan’s wedding earlier this year, which she later described as “...an incredibly inspiring and beautiful and really motivating thing. I was so proud of her and so happy for her.”
We will see The Duchess of Cambridge again tomorrow with The Duke to watch the Gentlemen’s Singles Final on Centre Court at 2pm local time.
Update: congrats to Angelique Kerber!!
Fashion is always a big part of the yearly Wimbledon tournament, with both players and spectators expected to dress to impress. But while the players are still expected to adhere to the strict all-white dress code, there is no longer an offical dress code for the spectator, with rules relaxing somewhat over the years.
If you are in the Royal Box however (usually reserved for the royals and A-listers by invitation only), it is required to dress up. Men must wear a lounge suit or tailored jacket, shirt, and tie, while women should avoid outfits that are too short or tight.
The Duchess of Cambridge chose to go with the tennis whites theme once again, picking this polka dot summer dress by one of her favourite labels, Jenny Packham. It features a a ruched-effect at the waist, ruffle detail at the neckline, short sleeves and a tennis ball-like pattern. Packham is known for creating bespoke items for Kate that pay subtle homage to the specific event she is attending.
For heels, Kate opted for her praline Gianvito Rossi 105 suede pumps, available for $675.
As for accessories, The Duchess wore her pearl earrings by Swedish jeweller In2Design that she wore earlier this year in Sweden. They are the Baroque Earrings in Gold/White, available for $152.
She also wore her Cartier Ballon Bleu watch.
Kate’s new Dolce & Gabbana handbag is the ‘Pink Medium Miss Sicily Bag’ which retails for $1,695 US. It features gold-tone hardware and logo stamp, an adjustable shoulder strap, leopard print lining and magnetic press-stud fastening.
Update: Kate also wore Ray-Ban’s ‘New Rubber Youngster Sunglasses’. As for The Duchess of Sussex, she wore a blue-and-white boxy, striped blouse by Ralph Lauren which she wore unbuttoned and relaxed. She paired it with white Ralph Lauren wide-leg trousers and a Maison Michel ‘Virginie’ hat. Meghan carried the Altuzarra 'Ghianda' Saddle Bag and wore ILLESTEVA ‘Leonard’ sunglasses.
Two very different but equally lovely looks for the two duchesses yesterday! I loved seeing them attend their first royal event together, and they seem to get along very well!
We will be seeing both William and Kate at Wimbledon today for the men’s finals!
