Christian Louboutin's trademark red-soled shoes will be seen on Cuban athletes at the upcoming Olympic Games held in Rio de Janeiro in Brazil.
The non-performance outfits created in collaboration with French e-concept store Sporty Henry, will be worn by more than 100 Cuban athletes at the Olympics formal occasions, including the notable opening and closing ceremonies.
The pieces include a high-top trainer and the loafer style Naza Star for men, and a block kitten heel sandal for female athletes, the Naza Sandal.
Sharply tailored jackets, in red for men and beige for women, feature the nation's flag on the breast pocket and are contrasted with interchangeable trousers, shorts and skirts.
The five-pointed star is used as emblem of luck displayed upon the back of each athlete's jacket.
It’s the elegance and fluidity of movement of someone who is so in control of their body that fascinates me," said Henri Tai, founder of Sporty Henri."At the Olympics, it feels like these athletes put on performance gear and simultaneously turn into these superheroes that defy gravity... We designed the celebratory outfit for the moment they turn back into humans."
The collaboration launched at an event in Lisbon, hosted by actor and former Olympic athlete Pedro Lima. Other athletes in attendance included volleyball player Regla Torres, boxer Fèlix Savòn and fencer Ringo Quintera.
