Dior Fall/Winter 2017/18 Campaign Continues Spotlight on Feminism and Femininity

2 July 2017

By Tricia Oliveira

Dior artistic director Maria Grazia Chiuri in her second season has once again put the spotlight on feminism and femininity with her collection and now, the advertising campaign for the Fall/Winter 2017/18 season.

Chiuri had delved into the 1949 Dior archives to produce a wearable display that reinterpreted the famed 'Chevrier' look in jackets, skirts, bombers and capes — all in various tones of blue.
There was much nostalgia to the retro gowns, which often were ankle-length, gathered at the waist and topped with the classic post-war beret rendered in leather.

Nine models front the campaign, posing with the collection which features contrasts and shades of blue.

Ruth Bell, who featured in the Spring/Summer 2017 campaign for Chiuri's first collection for Dior alongside her sister May Bell, returns for duty.

She is now joined by Grace Hartzel, Selena Forrest, Jing Wen, Adwoa Aboah, Fernanda Ly, Ellen Rosa, Aira Ferreira and Camille Hurel.

Arms crossed, hands in pockets or hanging down by their sides, the faces of this new collection are staring down the lens with steely determination.

Each of the shots for the campaign reveals the unique personality of each of these women and their rock-steady self-confidence.

Lensing the visuals is French photographer Brigitte Lacombe, who had been tasked with capturing the themes linking these individuals from diverse backgrounds.
