L.U.C. Time Traveler One is Chopard's First Ever Worldtime Watch

18 October 2016

By Scott Campbell

This year marks the 20th anniversary of the Chopard Manufacture, and on the occasion, the Swiss company has launched its first ever worldtime watch: the L.U.C Time Traveler One.

Designed for the globetrotting gentleman to tell the time across several time zones whilst looking stylish, the latest horological complication is available in three elegant versions: Stainless Steel, Rose Gold and Platinum.

With a concentric display interface on the dial, a central hand indicates the date, whilst Dauphine-type hands typical of the watches in the L.U.C collection indicate the hours and minutes using a surrounding railway track circle. This is adjusted via a crown positioned at 2 o'clock, bearing the L.U.C. logo.

A large 24-hour graduated ring operates in coordination with the disc bearing the reference cities and in actual fact, the 24 main time zones. Once they are synchronised with the local time zone via the 4 o'clock crown bearing a modern stylised globe motif, the read-off is rather straightforward.

The stainless steel L.U.C Time Traveler One features a sunburst black dial with contrasting orange accents. The worldtime ring stands out clearly, with a slate grey half indicating the night-time hours, and a silver-toned half showing daytime.

This next is an 18-carat rose gold version with dial that is entirely silver-toned, apart from the night-time hours that are shown in deep blue on its 24-hour disc.

The third, with a platinum case, comes with a subtle blue-tinged grey dial colour, while its worldtime ring is half silver-toned to mark the daytime hours.

All three of the L.U.C Time Traveler One measures 42 mm in diameter, and 12.09 mm thick and with alternating satin-brushed and polished finishes, falls in line with the dressy code of L.U.C timepieces.

Inside, the all-new calibre is entirely developed, produced and finished in the Chopard Manufacture workshops in Fleurier. The Calibre 01.05-L is distinguished by a 6.52 mm thickness, self-winding with a 60-hour power reserve.

Calibre 01.05-L is topped off with decorations such as chamfering and Côtes de Genève applied to the various components, and is chronometer-certified by the COSC.

With movement development, product design, gold smelting, case machining, movement components, traditional hand-crafted decorations, polishing, assembly, adjustment and movement quality control, all done in-house, Chopard's newest timepiece is exemplary of the standards set by Co-President Karl-Friedrich Scheufele in establishing a watch manufacture, and a fitting tribute to company founder Louis-Ulysse Chopard.
