Manhattan in Singapore has been named the winner of the inaugural Michter's Art of Hospitality Award by Asia's 50 Best Bars, a recognition of the bar's gold-standard service. The award is voted for by Asia's 50 Best Bars' 230-strong Academy, who are asked to name the institution that has provided the best hospitality experience in the past 18 months.
The award is the second of a series of special awards announced in the month leading up to the digital countdown of the annual list on 14 May, 2020. The digital ceremony will acknowledge the remarkable achievements of bars across the region over the past year, amidst a difficult time that calls for much-needed optimism.
50 Best has decided to go ahead with the announcement of this year's list after consultation with the Asian bar industry. This year’s virtual countdown is not designed to be a celebration, but rather a recognition of the bars and their teams’ hard work over the past year. The hospitality sector has been in turmoil in the face of the global pandemic, with the bar scene particularly affected. 50 Best hopes that the announcement of these awards will shine some light into the days of darkness and will be of assistance when the time comes for bars to reopen and recover.
Opened in 2014, Manhattan at Regent Singapore is home to the world’s first in-hotel rickhouse, in a setting reminiscent of old New York. Under the stewardship of Head Bartender Sophia Kang and Bar Manager David Nguyen-Luu, Manhattan’s claim to fame is equal parts due to its stellar menu of cocktails from New York’s history books and impeccable hospitality.
Behind Manhattan’s reputation for exceptional service is a comprehensive bi-weekly product and service training programme that all team members take part in. To further cultivate a strong service culture, staff also receive training through online hospitality education programmes on a weekly basis.
The fifth edition of the Asia’s 50 Best Bars, sponsored by Perrier, will be unveiled in a digital countdown on 14 May, beginning at 7pm Singapore time. Bars and cocktail lovers are invited to join the virtual ceremony on The World's 50 Best Bars Facebook page and 50 Best Bars TV YouTube channel.
