Ong Shunmugam x Bynd Artisan Capsule Collection Launches in Singapore

1 February 2016

By Tricia Oliveira

This year, Singaporean design label Ong Shunmugam, after successful seasons of reinventing, reinterpreting and modernising the traditional Chinese gown Cheongsam, has ventured out with an accessories and bags line, collaborating with leather craftsmen Bynd Artisan which has been in the bookbinding for over 60 years, to launch an exclusive capsule collection.

The Ong Shunmugam x Bynd Artisan Capsule Collection features two versatile clutch designs, each clad in traditional Asian laces and textiles from the Ong Shunmugam archives and lined with genuine nappa leather on the interior for a truly luxurious touch.

The combination of expertise and materials, of textile with leather, represents the culmination of both local brands’ unique selling points.

The two offerings are named after the mothers of the collaborators; designer Priscilla Shunmugam's mother (Poh Sim) and Bynd Artisan founder Winnie Chan's mother (Shao Xia) respectively.

Featuring contrasting patterned fabrics on each side of the clutch with a rectangle lock, the Poh Sim Clutch is versatile, and available five styles.

The Shao Xia Clutch features intricate lace overlay over matching coloured cloth secured with a metal ball clasp, each distinctive and unique due to the different placements of the fabric lace and is available in four styles.
