The Pelican is the first hotel created by Italian fashion giant Diesel in Miami Beach, in the heart of the famous “Deco District."
Among model agencies, hip bars and restaurants, trendy clubs, and castings taking place on every corner, it is like living inside a fabulous movie set. Here, Diesel discovered this building of the 40’s.
Strictly maintaining the facade and the name, Diesel in conjunction with the unique taste of the Swedish designer Magnus Ehrland, transformed this building into an eccentric space.
Those of you, who know the advertising campaigns of Diesel, know what we mean: photographs and video’s with happenings full of paradoxes and extravagant statements, kitsch with humor or clearly nonsense and explicit referrals to the myth of the so-called American Dream.
Within this concept and atmosphere, the 28 rooms and two penthouses rooms have been decorated. All the rooms have been furnished and named after their own style, each one with that unique detailed attention to details you could find in movie sets.
An example would be the Psychedelic(ate) Girl room with plastic furniture and striking mural visuals, the African room with a triumph of Zebra stripes furnished in old safari style, and the tribute to the American flag, the Stars and Stripes room.
A toy-hotel decorated with taste and no compromises, playing around different styles, recycled furniture and objects in an exquisite design and contemporary flair. At the Pelican, you see dining sets from the 40’s, refrigerator’s from the 30’s, sideboards stolen from a “whorehouse," or schools and churches for a paramount visual result, emphasizing the trends of the underground culture, movies (John Waters, Pedro Almodovar) and Disney cartoons.
