The American Wild West has gone from the world of movies to fashion, in Dolce and Stefano Gabbana's Fall/Winter 2016/2017 showcase.
The 1960s movie productions of Sergio Leone, widely credited as the inventor of the Spaghetti Western genre, was the inspiration for the Sicilian designer duo, who had titled their latest collection "Sicilian Western".
The movie soundtrack from the Italian film director, producer and screenwriter's "A Fistful of Dollars" (which starred Clint Eastwood) played as the runway presentation opened, setting the scene for the introduction.
The collection was inspired by a 60s spaghetti western but in a Dolce & Gabbana way, the style and shapes we have used for the last five years", said the designers.Embroidered motifs of cacti, crossed revolvers, a mustachioed cowboy on horse and a western tavern performer featured on sweaters and shirts, as well as on its signature bespoke three-piece or double breasted tailored jackets and suits.
Matched with thermal tops or scoop-neck sweaters, were luxuriant bushy lambswool pants.
They are like the new skinny trouser to the younger customer," explained Stefano Gabbana. For the finale walk, models emerged on the runway in silken pyjamas, taking nightwear out of the bedroom and onto the street. In all, Dolce & Gabbana's aesthetic points towards a fun contemporary menswear outlook for the upcoming season.
