TEAMORIGIN in Henri Lloyd

When TEAMORIGIN took to the water at the Audi TP52 Med Cup event in Cascais, Portugal the team will be kitted out in the latest innovations in marine clothing from their technical clothing sponsor Henri Lloyd.

Race day one was on Wednesday 12th May and the team had a great day out on the water, definitely mixing it with the top teams from the off. Their results for the three races were 4th, 9th and 2nd placing them joint 4th after day one.

The Henri Lloyd products worn by the TEAMORIGIN sailors include products from the 2010 marine collection, including items from the Octane WINDSTOPPER®, Atmosphere 360, TP2 Shadow 2G ranges, as well as a selection of footwear and accessories.

The kit has been designed to offer protection and to maximise performance in the varied conditions & climates that the team will encounter throughout their racing season, whilst also being adaptable for the different crew members and the roles that they have onboard.

Race for Change
TEAMORIGIN plans to use this high profile programme and partnership to raise awareness of the urgent need for action. The Carbon Trust is the leading independent authority on carbon reduction, they share a common interest in wind, waves and tide.

TEAMORIGIN believes that successfully harnessing these elements will help them both achieve their missions — to win the America's Cup and for the Carbon Trust, to create clean energy for the future and accelerating the move to a low carbon economy.

The Octane WINDSTOPPER® garments worn by the team include the jacket, vest, shorts and trousers, and have been designed with fabric partners W L Gore & Associates. The products are constructed using a 3 layer WINDSTOPPER® laminate design, which offers two different weights of the 100% windproof, breathable, water resistant fabric which are strategically positioned in the garments. This means that in specific high movement areas such as under the arms, high stretch panels are used to maximise flexibility. This super-stretch, ultra lightweight fabric is finely tailored to ensure an optimum streamline fit without compromising performance.

The Octane WINDSTOPPER® garments are being worn in combination with Henri Lloyd Atmosphere base layer which have been designed to be lightweight and breathable and their main role is to move (wick) moisture away from the body skin, therefore keeping the sailors dry and comfortable, whist also offered providing UV protection from the sun’s harmful rays

When the sailors encounter more demanding conditions and therefore require additional protection, they will use the DAME Award winning TP2 Shadow 2G range of salopettes and smocks as their outer layer.

The sailing team are all wearing the latest sailing lightweight trainer from Henri Lloyd, the Octogrip Stealth; The Octogrip Stealth offers the most important qualities needed in a high performance shoe, including grip, flexibility and quick drying properties.

The bespoke TEAMORIGIN Cap, as worn by the team will also be available as part of the Henri Lloyd – TEAMORIGIN Merchandise range which will be launched at the 1851 Cup event taking place during Cowes Week (31st July to 6th August) and will be on sale at the 1851 Cup marquee on the Cowes Parade, online and at the Henri Lloyd Sailing Store on Cowes High Street.

Ben Ainslie, TEAMORIGIN Skipper and helmsman, commented “The new Windstopper range is ideal for our use – short, dynamic and high performance racing in warm Mediterranean areas where it can be windy, wet and sunny all at the same time. It is highly breathable so the guys can wear it throughout the day – onshore and on the boat when racing. Such features as pockets in the trousers and shorts are ideal for the shore team and the general look of the team is much more co-ordinated across the range of clothing options.
