Aston Martin kicked off its year-long celebration of its 100th Anniversary with the unveiling of a bespoke new Centenary Edition Vanquish, representing the British marque's ultimate GT car, showcasing a painstakingly created Centenary Edition specification that will be applied only on 100 each in its model range of V8 Vantage, DB9, Rapide and Vanquish. Zagato joins in on the celebration...
The history of Aston Martin and Zagato began back in 2001 when Dr. Ulrich Bez approved a design for the DB7 Zagato, which was inspired and financed by the Zagato team, comprising of Andrea and Marella Zagato and Peter Read, a long-time enthusiast and collector of Aston Martins.
Due to the success of the DB7 Zagato (all 99 units were sold at the Paris Motor Show prior to production) and with the approval and collaboration of Aston Martin, the same team designed, developed and produced a one-off DB9 Spyder Zagato Centennial.
In 2013, Zagato marks the Aston Martin Centenary with two new special editions: the DB9 Spyder Zagato Centennial, conceived for the Peter Read and the DBS Coupé Zagato Centennial, delivered to a Japanese fashion designer who works at Costume National in Milan.
Unveiled recently at the British marque's celebrations held at Kensington Gardens in London, alongside 100 classic and contemporary Aston Martin models on display, the two creations were well-positioned and designed to honour the heritage, power and elegance of Aston Martin’s Centenary.
The Aston Martin DBS Coupé Zagato Centennial is an exotic cross of Aston Martin DNA with Italian flair and Milanese inspiration, sporting a ‘double bubble’ roof design, reminiscent of Zagato cars from the 1950s.
Norihiko Harada, Zagato’s Chief Designer explains: "Redesigning the DBS was a difficult job. The DBS is already one of the most beautiful modern sports cars around.
