The Pitti Immagine Discovery Foundation is set to to unveil "The Ephemeral Museum of Fashion" later this year, bringing to the centrestage novel conceptions of both staging and thematic content.
The 19th- and 20th-century works selected for the exhibition recount moments in the history of fashion and costume; the contemporary is also amply narrated with recent acquisitions by the Musée Galliera, presented for the first time here in Florence, and with several pieces from the Palazzo Pitti collection.
It will open on 13 June, the first day of the 92nd edition of Pitti Immagine Uomo.
The showcase is the second episode in a three-year program promoted by the Centro di Firenze per la Moda Italiana and the Gallerie degli Uffizi and is curated by Olivier Saillard.
Eike Schmidt, director of the Gallerie degli Uffizi, adds "Palazzo Pitti is hosting an exhibition that investigates the mechanisms of fashion and reflects on its broader implications."
"It is a doubly important event: The Ephemeral Museum is a sterling occasion to delve into the archives to offer visitors a new perspective on the collections and the spaces of the Galleria del Costume e della Moda as it completes its process of evolution toward becoming the new Museo della Moda di Palazzo Pitti."
"The Ephemeral Museum of Fashion" will be opened until 23 October 2017.
