The deep black sunburst finish of the Golden Ellipse is created on an 18K gold dial plate. A brush with metal bristles is used to create rays spreading from the center to the rim. The effect of light rays on the ebony black dial compliments both the shiny black alligator strap and the black onyx on the winding crown.
To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the legendary Golden Ellipse, Patek Philippe presented a ‘grande-taille’ rose-gold version of this icon (Ref. 5738), adorned with an ebony black sunburst dial whose applied hour markers and slender hands are also in rose gold.
