Cartier is set to unveil its latest instant-classic creation come April, the Amulette de Cartier collection, positioned as a gift to oneself as a personal charm, something to hold close to your heart.
Unlike previous Cartier collections, including Love, Juste Un Clou and Trinity, which have mainly consisted of bracelets and rings, Amulette de Cartier sees the Jeweller to the Kings, Kings of the Jewellers focus on necklaces for the first time.
With a bejewelled capsule of mother-of-pearl, onyx or diamond paving, the Amulette is seductive from the onset, and with the hidden clasp at the top of the disc, unlocked like a padlock to figuratively open the door to a wish.
The collection consists of pendant necklaces as well as miniature bracelets, each with the pendant that is a magnetic sphere, with either onyx or a diamond as its centrepiece.
In many ways, it is Cartier’s version of the ‘Nazar’, a an eye-shaped talisman believed to protect against the “evil eye’” representing bad fortune, envy, jealousy and various superstitions and has existed in cultures ranging from Turkey, Albania, Greece, Cyprus, Syria, Lebanon, Egypt, Armenia, Iran, Afghanistan, Iraq to Azerbaijan.
With the Amulette de Cartier, the Nazar has taken true artisanal form, bedazzled with jewellery yet retaining all its magical charm and appeal.
