Rolex is Proud Sponsor of the Oscars ceremony for eighth consecutive year

18 March 2024

By Kien Lee

All the stars have descended upon the Dolby® Theatre in Hollywood, as the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) hands out the Oscars in the penultimate event in the filmmaking industry, the 96th Annual Academy Awards held on 10 March 2024.

Telecast live in more than 200 territories worldwide, with updates on winners and newsworthy moments shared by users on social media platforms near instantaneously, the Oscars ceremony is by all measures, the tentpole event for the industry, not just in Los Angeles but globally. Rolex is ever-present alongside as the Proud Sponsor of the Oscars ceremony, doing so for the eighth consecutive year.

Cinema is at once an art, a science and an industry, and the Oscars ceremony shines a light on every one of its facets.

Indeed, the Oscars not only gives high recognition for cinematic achievements over the course of the year, but it also shapes the landscape and development of cinema worldwide. It is the highest praise bestowed upon the production process, the technical expertise and all else that goes into the making of a film. As Rolex founder Hans Wilsdorf puts it aptly, it is an ode to “a work done handsomely”.

Rolex celebrates Oscars 2024 - "Every hero needs an ally" - Rolex’s emblematic campaign video for the 96th Academy Awards season includes a montage of clips that has been broadened from films made traditionally for the big screen, with new additions from TV and web series produced directly for streaming apps.

The celebration of excellence, the perpetuation of knowledge, and the conservation of the art -- these are the values cherished and promulgated by Rolex. The coming-together of Rolex and AMPAS is the manifestation and convergence of these values shared by the Swiss manufacture and the motion picture arts, supporting the Academy in its missions to promote excellence in film and preserve its legacy for future generations, and to celebrate cinema’s universal values.

As the partner to AMPAS since 2017, Rolex is the Exclusive Watch of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, Proud Sponsor of the Oscars® and Exclusive Sponsor of the Governors Awards. It is also a Founding Supporter and Official Watch of the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures that opened in Los Angeles in September 2021.

Rolex also encourages the preservation and transmission of the cinematic arts, promotes excellence and celebrates progress by accompanying living legends as well as young talents through its Testimonees (Martin Scorsese and James Cameron), as well as Martin Scorsese’s The Film Foundation and the Rolex Mentor and Protégé Arts Initiative.
