The Anna Freud Centre for Children and Families
By Alexandrina Kentska | 8 November 2017

Monday evening the Duchess of Cambridge hosted a special gala dinner for The Anna Freud Centre for Children and Families at The Orangery at Kensington Palace .

The primary reason for event was to hear about the new Centre of Excellence which is currently under construction on Rodney Street near King's Cross Station.

The charity is creating the £39 million Centre of Excellence to cope with the increasing number of children and families struggling with mental health issues and seeking support. It will bring under one roof the very best science, education and mental health support for these families.

According to the Anna Freud website, "Currently 50% of adult mental health problems begin in childhood. Suicide is the second most common cause of death amongst young men and fewer than 35% of young people with mental health problems get any help at all."

The Duchess also met with some of the charity’s service users, including families who have benefited from the work of the organisation.

Guests were served canapés followed by a sit-down dinner of butter-poached chicken breast, potato terrine, baby leeks wild mushrooms and salsify followed by Apple tart tartin, pat and black olive crumble, Szechuan pepper ice cream and caramel gel.

Following Kate’s departure an auction was held to raise money for the charity.

Kate became Patron of AFNCCF early last year, and has visited the charity a number of times since to learn about the work they are doing surrounding childrens' mental health.

The Duchess has long had a desire to draw attention to child mental health issues and the importance of early intervention, as well as working with the whole family.

The AFNCCF says, "Our vision is a world where children and families are supported effectively to build on their strengths and to achieve their goals in life. We won’t rest until every child and their family has the support they need and deserve, whatever their circumstances."

The Duchess was back in her gorgeous lace Diane Von Furstenburg gown for gala dinner at Kensington Palace.

We have previously seen her wear this to the 2014 Royal Variety Performance, as well as to a friend's wedding the same year. On both occasions, she was in the early stages of pregnancy with Charlotte.

The Zarita gown was originally £1,150/$1,514, and was described, "Fitted through the bodice, waist and thigh, this piece opens to a sweeping fluted hem."

Kate's gown has sold out, however the short version is available for $139 at Nordstrom Rack in black, navy, ivory and nude in sizes 8-14. Prince Harry's girlfriend Meghan Markle wore this version back in 2012 .

Also to make a reappearance were the beautiful diamond drop earrings owned by The Queen. Kate has worn these three times already, so she clearly keeps these in her jewellery box, on a loan from Her Majesty, rather than a one-off borrow. Not much is known about the history of these earrings.

Kate's diamond bracelet is a new piece. It is in fact one of the Queen's bracelets that has hardly been seen/worn by HM. She wore it once in 2010 and its history is unknown. They called it the Diamond Quatrefoil Bracelet.

Kate also carried her black satin Prada clutch .

The Duchess of course also wore a poppy brooch for Remembrance Day coming up. She will be attending both the Festival of Remembrance (11th) and the Remembrance Sunday service (12th).
