Today The Duchess is visiting Robin Hood Primary School to celebrate their work with the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Campaign for School Gardening.
The RHS Campaign for School Gardening inspires and supports schools to provide children with gardening opportunities to enhance their skills and boost their development.
The campaign brings with it many wide ranging benefits to children: it teaches them valuable life skills such as teamwork and confidence, it encourages a healthier lifestyle, it teaches children about the environment and sustainability, and it improves their mental wellbeing.
The Duchess received a briefing on the RHS nation-wide campaign and heard about the many benefits of learning outside. She then joined some of the school's pupils in the Outdoor Learning Area and helped plant some bulbs in the Sensory Garden. Pupils showed The Duchess how to whittle sticks to create homes for insects, in the shadow of their existing bug hotel, ‘Bug–ingham Palace'.
Robin Hood Primary School believes that the awe and wonder of the natural world should be part of the school curriculum. Children have the opportunity to learn about the ever-changing natural environment through various activities specifically designed to meet the needs of their particular year level.
Kate got to cut the first slice of a cake to mark ten years of the RHS campaign for school gardening that has so far enabled 34,000 schools to get involved in gardening.
Kate said she has fond memories of gardening as a child and is handing that down to her own children, George and Charlotte.
Outfit details: The Duchess returned to some familiar items in her wardrobe for today's visit to Robin Hood Primary School, where she got into some gardening.
Her jacket is Barbour's 'Ladies Waxed Defense Jacket', which we have seen a number of times off-duty back in 2012 and 2013, but this is the first time she has worn it to an engagement. This specific jacket is no longer available, but Barbour has many similar jackets ranging from £200-£300.
Underneath her jacket was her black Temperley London Honeycomb Tunic Sweater which can be found on eBay for around £300. This is also an item we have seen a few times off-duty.
Kate wore some black skinny jeans with her outfit.
She wore her Penelope Chilvers 'Long Tassel Boot' in Conker again today. They are available for £475. These are the boots that she has had in her wardrobe for over ten years.
For jewellery, Kate opted for her trusty Kiki McDonough 'Lauren Yellow Gold Pave Diamond Lead Earrings, available for £1,833.33.
