30 August 2022

By Natalie White

The Asian Civilizations Museum (ACM) in Singapore has opened its latest exhibition, 'Batik Kita: Dressing in Port Cities' showcasing more than 100 Batik masterpieces loaned from overseas and locally, including rarely-seen pieces from the National Collection.

The cloths and clothing items featured provide an exposition into the making, wearing and trading of batik, exploring the rich history and culture of batik from its traditional roots to contemporary designs.

Visitors are treated to batik textiles across different cultures and ethnic backgrounds, as well as innovations in this age-old craft.

The exhibition held on level of ACM, also charts the evolution of identities taken by Batik across Indonesia Malaysia and Singapore.

'Batik Kita: Dressing in Port Cities' runs until October 2, 2022 at the ACM, and tickets are priced at S$12 for Singaporeans and S$25 (US$18) for non-residents. In conjunction with the exhibition, the museum will offer curator tours, interactive activities, and workshops focusing on batik fashion, craft, and design to the general public; programs are available both on-site and online.
