Two decades ago, Brompton founder Andrew Ritchie first started receiving enquiries to sell Brompton bikes further afield. Tourists visiting London and other European cities had seen these compact folding bikes whizzing around the streets and wanted one for themselves.
Bromptons soon started appearing in neighbourhoods across the Asia Pacific region and were an instant hit.
2019 will mark 20 years from when the first Brompton bikes were sold in Asia. The company is celebrating this milestone with the new and exclusive 20 Years in Asia Gold Edition, that represents good fortune and prosperity.
Exclusively for Asia and made in limited numbers, only 1,000 bikes are to be produced in this special edition run. Only 80 of the bikes will be initially available in Singapore, making this a truly sought-after collectible for those with an appreciation of precision engineering and design in cycling.
Handmade in London since 1975, the innovative design of Brompton is renowned for its lightweight compact size, portability and extensive customisation options.
Launched as part of the festive Lunar New Year celebrations, the golden lacquered frame of the 20th anniversary edition accentuates the sleek, impeccably crafted steel tubing, whilst striking black gloss components, including handlebar (M or H options), stem, seat post and 16” wheels stand out in contrast. The black Brooks B17 saddle is handcrafted in the UK with premium British Leather.
The bicycle is available as a 6-speed L-type and features a customised, numbered serial plate (i.e. 1/1000, 2/1000 etc.), decal and an owner's certificate. Each bike also receives a golden toolkit, exclusive and available only with the special edition.
Priced at S$3,215 and available from the 18 January, the new '20 Years in Asia' Gold Edition is available to pre-order online at sg.brompton.com or through official Brompton dealers B-spokes, Happy Owl Cycle or 808 Cycles.
