First CASA LOEWE in Southeast Asia Opens at ION Orchard in Singapore

18 December 2020

By Natalie White

With Creative Director Jonathan Anderson at the helm, the new CASA LOEWE in Singapore store adopts familiar tropes found across the brand’s retail design.

An intimate environment on a large scale, LOEWE products are interspersed with pieces of art, craft and design curated by Anderson. From painting and sculpture to furniture and crafted objects, the collection establishes a fluid relationship between pieces that one might find in an art collector’s home.

CASA LOEWE Singapore follows the recent CASA LOEWE openings in Madrid, London, Tokyo and Beijing with natural materials being the central interior decor theme. Concrete walls, wood panelling and traditional ceramic wall, handmade and produced in Spain.

Carefully curated furniture and light sculptures inhabit the space, including a chandelier from Antique Associates, Utrecht armchairs designed by the Dutch artist Gerrit Thomas Rietveld and Conoid Cushion chairs by George Nakashima, creating an atmosphere of graceful sophistication. Benches commissioned by LOEWE FOUNDATION Craft Prize 2019 finalists Jim Partridge & Liz Walmsley, carpets by John Allen, and a coffee table by curator and designer Axel Vervoordt complete the collection.

Art is central to the LOEWE interior retail concept and at LOEWE Singapore, the exhibited works represent LOEWE’s deep commitment to the arts, featuring artists who, in many cases, have a long-standing relationship with the brand. CASA LOEWE Singapore will feature works by nine international artists and designers, including the hand-dyed tapestry ‘A Positive Light’ by American textile artist Josh Faught whose work was exhibited at CASA LOEWE London in 2019. It will be shown alongside works by contemporary Japanese artist, Shihoko Fukumoto and British ceramicists, Betty Blandino and Nicholas Homoky. Each piece is carefully placed to add a sense of discovery as people move through the space.

The 340 square metre store will showcase the full range of women’s and men’s ready-to-wear, bags, small leather goods, soft accessories, eyewear, jewellery and shoes. An open area in the entrance will serve as a pop-up space where LOEWE can exhibit capsule collections and art projects.
