2015 Jaguar F-TYPE Coupé is Faster, Stiffer and Sharper

22 November 2013

By Scott Campbell

M aking its world debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show on 20 November was the most dynamically capable, performance-focused sports car that Jaguar has ever produced, the F-TYPE Coupé.

The 2015 model evokes memories and the design DNA of the marque's classic E-type, a favorite of Hollywood icon Steve McQueen.

Available in three versions, the headlining F-TYPE R Coupé is powered by a 550hp 5-liter supercharged V8 engine and will reach 100kmh in 4.0 seconds, and a top speed of 300 kmh (electronically limited). The features Jaguar’s second-generation Electronic Active Differential and new Torque Vectoring technologies to deliver enhanced agility, effective braking and expert handling.

Completing the range are the F-TYPE S Coupé and F-TYPE Coupé, powered by 3-liter supercharged V6 engines in 380hp and 340hp, able to reach 100kmh in 4.8 seconds and 5.1 seconds, and possessing top speeds of 275kmh and 260kmh, respectively.

"The F-TYPE Coupé provides its driver with a unique sports car experience. It combines seductive design with cutting-edge technology and performance which is truly breathtaking" explains Phil Popham, Group Marketing Director, Jaguar Land Rover

Engaging, precise, intuitive and alive – it is the definitive sports Coupé.

Embodying the design vision of the Jaguar C-X16 concept sports coupé that made its stunning debut at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show, the F-TYPE has a cabin-rearward stance defined by its muscular front and rear wings, and its roof profile.

In combination, the unbroken silhouette emphasizes the visual drama of the tapered cabin sitting between powerful rear haunches.

Delivered in a lightweight yet extremely strong bodyshell, the torsional rigidity for the model is 33,000 Nm/degree, which is greater than in any previous production Jaguar.

Finally, the body side is made from a single piece aluminium pressing, probably the most extreme cold-formed aluminium body side in the automotive industry, eliminating the requirement for multiple panels and cosmetic joints.

The roof panel itself is available in either aluminium or panoramic glass form.

In the read, a deployable spoiler sits within the tapered shut-line of the F-TYPE Coupé, while slim, wraparound LED lamps flank a beautifully engineered tailgate.
