In a daring move that redefines the boundaries of Swiss craftsmanship, Zenith has unveiled the Defy Extreme Chroma limited editions, a pair of timepieces that channel the brand’s daring spirit into a mechanical rainbow of chromatic brilliance.
Following the resounding success of the Defy 21 Chroma in 2022 and the Chroma II in 2023, this latest iteration elevates the concept by applying a spectrum of colors to the robust and architectural Defy Extreme silhouette.
Visually, these 45mm timepieces are a study in contrasts and bold geometry. The case construction masterfully blends titanium and ceramic, available in either a microblasted finish or a brushed and polished titanium variation that catches the light with every movement.
The angular design is further accentuated by a dodecagonal bezel and pusher protectors crafted from black micro-blasted titanium or pristine white ceramic, creating a structural framework that highlights the watch's dynamic character.
Despite its artistic flair, the piece remains an instrument of utility, engineered to withstand the elements with water resistance up to 20 ATM.
The true allure of the Defy Extreme Chroma lies beneath the sapphire crystal, where the El Primero 9004 automatic calibre beats with a rhythmic and colorful intensity. Zenith has transformed the movement into a piece of kinetic art by applying a PVD coating to the bridges in a seamless rainbow gradient.
This chromatic palette is mirrored on the openworked dial, where the markers and printings follow the same vivid spectrum. The meticulous attention to detail extends to the subsidiary dial hands, which feature distinct colors for the chronograph counters and power reserve display, ensuring that each glance at the wrist offers a unique color composition.
Turning the watch over reveals yet another layer of design sophistication. The transparent case back displays Zenith’s signature star-shaped rotor, which is rendered in a striking electric blue for the black edition and a vivid green for the white model. Beyond its aesthetic prowess, the watch is a technical marvel capable of measuring elapsed time with 1/100th of a second precision.
This feat is achieved through two independent escapement systems, with one beating at 5 Hz for traditional timekeeping and a second operating at a staggering 50 Hz specifically for the chronograph functions.
Versatility remains at the heart of this collection, as each timepiece features a quick-change mechanism that allows the wearer to swap straps effortlessly via push buttons on the case back. To suit any occasion or ensemble, the watch is presented with three distinct strap options, including an embossed rubber strap, a matching titanium bracelet, and a sporty Velcro strap.
Limited to just 100 pieces per edition, these rare collectors' items are priced at 20,600 USD and are available at Zenith boutiques and authorized retailers worldwide.
