Pan Pacific Singapore and Dahlia Gallery present Urban Landscapes, a solo exhibition that showcases contemporary Chinese ink paintings by local artist Anthony Chua Say Hua.
In Urban Landscapes, Anthony Chua's artworks are visual juxtapositions of traditional shop houses found in an urban setting, enhanced by his mastery in Chinese ink using Western modern aesthetics. His artworks are designed to highlight the distinctive characteristics of old shop houses such as the porcelain wall tiles that reflect the rich heritage of the Peranakan culture.
Through his expression of bold brush strokes coupled with layers of earth and blue- green hues, he creates an aged effect on Korean or Chinese rice papers that enables one to take a trip down memory lane reliving the old streets of Chinatown, Joo Chiat and Boat Quay in his paintings.
Singapore's third generation artist, Anthony Chua has been in the art scene for more than 20 years and participated in 12 solo exhibitions and more than 15 exhibitions in Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Japan, China and Mongolia. His works have won numerous awards including first prize in Traditional Chinese Medium, Highly Commended and Silver Award in Established Artist Categories in UOB Painting of the Year competitions 2001, 2004, 2008, 2009 and 2014 respectively.
Visitors are welcome to experience the iconic ink works at this complimentary art exhibition. Urban Landscapes will be on showcase 11:00am to 8:00pm daily from 4 May to 31 July 2016 at the Public Art Space on Level 2 of Pan Pacific Singapore.
