Briatore to Return to F1

Flavio Briatore could be set for a return to Formula One in a promotional role alongside friend and business partner Bernie Ecclestone.

That is the view of former FIA president Max Mosley, who told Germany's Welt newspaper that a promotional or managerial role within the sport was the most likely option.

Mosley oversaw the imposition of Briatore's lifetime ban from working in F1 for his part in the Renault Crashgate scandal. But with Jean Todt agreeing to let the Italian back into the paddock in 2013 after the ban was overturned in court, Mosley said his return was now entirely possible.

"It's quite possible," said Mosley. "Should he come back, then it will certainly not be as team boss, but rather as a promoter or a manager of his drivers."

Mosley also hinted that Briatore's good friendship with Ecclestone may have a big influence on his future role.

"Bernie and Flavio are good friends and often go to lunch at a restaurant in Brompton Road, opposite Flavio's London office. That's all I know.

No stranger to controversy, Briatore had his $25 million yacht seized by Italian police shortly after the Monaco Grand Prix over allegations he owes several million dollars in unpaid taxes.
