MOSCOW 18 July 2010 - Formula One world champion Jenson Button has drove McLaren around the streets of Moscow, demonstrating up close and personal the F1 experience for fans based in the Russian capital.
At the occasion, F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone has announced his interest in bringing the F1 circuit to Russia. From a sporting standpoint, The Russian city of Sochi will host the 2014 Winter Olympics and Russia is bidding to stage the 2018 soccer World Cup.
Formula One made a press stop in Moscow for the Bavaria Moscow City Racing 2010 event this past Sunday.
So far. Ecclestone has previously held discussions about possible F1 races in Moscow and St Petersburg, but there has been no update on whether a Russian city will host a race on the F1 calendar.
Russian Formula One rookie Vitaly Petrov was also at Sunday's event, driving a modified three-seater F1 supplied by his Renault team, which has told him that he must start scoring regular points to secure his future with them. Petrov has scored in only one of his ten races so far, when he finished seventh in China in April for six points.
