As 2009 comes down to a close, we'd like to remember Kimi Raikkonen for the wonderful memories he has left us with, with his driving at Scuderia Ferrari Malboro and previously at McLaren Mercedes.
A memorable memory we have of Kimi has been his professional attitude towards his job this year. Sidelined at Ferrari amidst much rumours (and eventual announcement) of Fernando Alonso replacing him in 2010, Kimi continued to do a great job, driving to the best of his and his car's abilities.
This included the unfortunate accident that Felipe Massa encountered, elevating Kimi back to a role as de-facto lead driver for Ferrari - knowing that he was in a lose-lose situation: He was supposed to continue to fly Ferrari's flag even though he was going to be replaced the following year.
It is this kind of attitude that we should learn from, as a lesson from 2009 that we should bring to 2010. To be professional in what we do, to be fearless in what we have set ourselves out to do.
[In Brazil Grand Prix 2009] To have burning car fuel splash right onto his vehicle from Hekki Kovalainen's car, engulfing his vehicle and him in flames, be blinded temporarily and still finish the remainder of the race with his eyes stinging...
This kind of attitude is rare. Indeed.
It is this one lesson from Kimi's 2009 season in Formula One that we should learn from, and incorporate into how we conduct ourselves as we pursue our personal and professional goals in 2010.
Have a Happy New Year, Formula One fans... a prosperous 2010 for one and all.
If we're lucky, we'll see the Iceman back after a one year hiatus.
