For over a decade, LA MER has committed to supporting the protection of ocean habitats, an initiative that has been by no means trivial, and no more crucial to its own outstanding products, which draws from the natural resources found in the oceans as its key ingredient – the sea kelp.
On its end, LA MER sustainably hand-harvests the aquatic plant but ensures that replenishment is aplenty, ensuring that it gives back as much as it takes.
In 2014, the luxury skincare label went on to establish Blue Heart, a philanthropic global effort to celebrate the ocean and share a deeper understanding of how essential it is to our own lives. In 2016, it continues this partnership with National Geographic Society to help support the next generation of ocean explorers.
National Geographic Explorer-in-Residence Dr. Sylvia Earle shares her ocean inspiration and expertise through a cinematic short film, reminding us that the ocean has the power to both enchant us and change our lives.
The sea is infinitely fascinating. A never-ending source of wonder. Every living thing is a miracle." Sylvia EarleThe is in conjunction with World Oceans Day, created in 1992 and made official by the United Nations in 2009, celebrated annually on 8 June calling global citizens to recognize the importance of the sea as a vital ecosystem and to take action to preserve its delicate habitats and wildlife.

These include ocean conservationists and filmmakers Philippe and Ashlan Cousteau, champion free diver Tomoka Fukuda and model/actress Elsa Pataky, who will premiere throughout June a series of vignettes that beautifully captures how the ocean serves as their muse to stimulate their passions and profession.
