Mercedes GP F1 Team Reintroduces Rear Blown-Diffuser

Mercedes GP reintroduced the rear diffuser on their F1 car, which allows the exhaust gases to flow through the rear diffuser.

One of the innovations introduced by Red Bull Racing this season is the new configuration of the exhaust system, which allows the exhaust gases to be eliminated through the rear diffuser after they first pass underneath the car’s floor.

The idea was copied by their rivals, and Mercedes GP introduce such a solution in the German Grand Prix. Though, Ross Brawn’s team dropped the system in the race at Hungaroring because of the high temperatures registered around the floor, which affected its structure.

During the summer break, lasting for four weeks, the Germans managed to fix this problem, so the second version of the rear diffuser will be used within the Friday free practice in Belgium. The information was confirmed by Nico Rosberg this morning in the paddock at Spa-Francorchamps.

You can never say for sure, but they have done the best possible job to try and modify the parts and hopefully they will work here. At the moment Ferrari and Red Bull Racing are a bit ahead, so it’s difficult to say where we will be, but I am not expecting big jumps at the moment.

The German’s testing schedule was unfortunately affected by the rain that fell on the Belgian track in the first practice session.

We will find out more about the effectiveness of the rear diffuser today.
