Christian Horner announced that Mark Webber and Sebatian Vettel will benefit from equal treatment in the Brazilian Grand Prix and in the race for the Formula One world title.
The two retirements suffered by Red Bull Racing in the Korean Grand Prix have put Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel farther away from the world title, the two drivers dropping at 11 and 25 points, respectively, from the new F1 Drivers’ Championship leader, Fernando Alonso, with only two races before the end of the season.
Given the situation, Christian Horner, Red Bull Racing boss, admitted at the end of the last Grand Prix that the team is analyzing the possibility of favoring Webber at Interlagos to maximize his title chances. After an analysis that lasted only for three days, the team took the decision of supporting the two drivers equally in the race for the title, saying that both have true chances of fulfilling their personal goals.
We have two fantastic drivers and we will continue to support both equally in line with Red Bull’s credible sporting ethos. As we saw in Korea it is impossible to predict what will happen with five drivers being so closely in contention. For example, with ten laps to go Sebastian had moved into the lead of the Championship, with Alonso then moving into the lead following our bad luck. It just goes to show that situations can change very quickly."Ultimately as we now approach the end of the Championship, the mathematics will speak for themselves and I’m certain that both drivers will do everything possible to achieve the best result for the team,” said the 36 years old Brit for the Red Bull official website.
Horner is confident in team’s chances in the Brazilian GP scheduled for the weekend of the next week and claims that he is encouraged by the Red Bull RB6 performance on the new track in Yeongam.
It was a track that people predicted wouldn’t suit Red Bull, yet we qualified first and second and we allayed any doubts about the performance of our car in wet conditions. The strategy and pit-stop on Sunday were spot on and Sebastian was doing an excellent job of managing the race from the front."The result was disappointing; it was gracious of Renault to publicly apologise, but as a team we win together and lose together and will bounce back strongly in Brazil,” Horner also said.
